This paper reviewed the effect of the WHO Age-Friendly Cities framework in propagating age-friendly policies and initiatives in Australia. A review of existing literature and empirical evidence showed that the progression of age-friendly initiatives varied across cities. While cities such as Melbourne and Canberra had taken the lead to draft and implement age-friendly strategies, others such as Sydney were still working towards the development of strategies. Findings revealed that political will and fiscal austerity were critical determinants for the successful conception and implementation of age-friendly initiatives.
